Health Update/Endocrinologist

We saw the endocrinologist the other day to see if there was anything hormonal going on. Usually when it comes to glucose and insulin, that's where the referral goes. She looked at his growth charts, and since he's been growing consistently, she didn't see much. She took some blood and after the initial test, everything was normal but the cortisol level was slightly low. When they did the repeat, it came back all normal.

So far now, we still don't know anything. We're waiting to hear back from the geneticist about tests that he had to send off. One lab that they've been interested in is the alkaline phosphatase. It's been extremely high since the first ER visit. That can mean a number of things--some a bit scary. But, we've been informed by his pediatrician that it can also mean a growth spurt. He's had it come down quite a bit since then which supports that theory. A normal value would be ~45-150 and the first time it was tested, his was 2200. The last one that was taken was 400. So that's really good to know.

He's been doing great. We've been checking his glucose in the middle of the night every night and it's been normal. He's been eating just like normal (everything). And we've been paying very close attention if he's acting sick.

Please continue to pray that it's nothing. It's possible that as a toddler, he may just have trouble controlling his blood sugar when his body is stressed.

A Visit From Cousins

The week before Christmas we got a really special visit from Austin, Summer, and Luke. And of course, Uncle C and Aunt Ashley. We hadn't seen them in six months so it was great to see the kids interact with one another. We celebrated Christmas on Sunday and the kids opened their gifts at Nanny and Poppy's. Of course, we had to bring Molly over there as well.On Monday night we went to Fulton Street to see the "snow". We got a lot of great pics. We love you guys and are so glad ya'll came down to visit!

Fall Pictures

Nanny and I took Isaac to get pictures taken in Audubon Park for fall. Even though he wasn't interested in the slightest, the pictures came out adorable! Thank you, Nanny. Here are my favorites...

Giving Thanks

Isaac's daycare had a Thanksgiving luncheon the week before Thanksgiving. I had enough notice to be able to get out of work, so it was nice that we were both able to go. Isaac was acting up when we first got there, but he eventually ate all his food like the little monster he is. Here are some pics.

For Thanksgiving Day, we spent the day with Daddy's side of the family. It was really nice because Poppy's sister and her family came in all the way from Maryland and we were all able to be together. It was Isaac's first time meeting them. We also had Uncle Todd there, great Grammy and Grandad, Nanny and Poppy, and Grandma. The food was great but it was even more great to get together with everyone.

We are so thankful for everything that God has blessed us with, especially for our precious little man.

Another Health Scare

Just wanted to let you know that we had to bring Isaac to the hospital again two weeks ago. He had another hypoglycemic episode overnight, and in the morning he had some more seizure-like activity. He wasn't admitted this time, but we were able to move the geneticist appointment up. He told us that some of Isaac's labs are a little funky and we got some more bloodwork this past weekend. These are genetic, chromosomal tests and need to be sent off. We won't get back results for 6-8 weeks. He did tell us what he's thinking, but he also warned that he doesn't have a lot of information yet. He's thinking possibly a glycogen storage disease or a mitochondrial disorder. I only know about glycogen, nothing about mitochondrial disorders. And I'm not going to kill myself trying to figure it out.

For now, we're just praying for the best and taking care of our boy in the meantime. He's doing great as you can see by all the pics. Now that we've had an episode at home, we're much more prepared. I have been checking his glucose in the middle of the night and if it's already dipping, then we have to wake him up and feed him. Other than that, we're armed with glucose gel that we can rub in his mouth to get his glucose up quickly. I also have glucagon that I can inject in his thigh if I can't get it up and the seizure is not stopping. Hopefully I won't ever have to use that.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We have trust in God :)

Big boy!

Last weekend, we finally decided to convert Isac's crib to a the daybed. We had made the decision to wait until he was ready to change it, meaning when he was started to try to escape his crib. And that wasn't until recently. At night once we put him to bed, he would start crying and when we'd check on him his thigh was stuck between the slats. We knew it was time. He has been doing AMAZING! We have the monitors on and on the weekends I hear him piddling around until he starts knocking banging on the door to let him out. Once we put him to bed, he's been going straight to sleep. We are so proud of him!

Halloween Weekend

So I'm such a last minute mom, that I didn't actually buy Isaac a costume. haha. I worked with what we had. On Saturday we took Isaac to a pumpkin patch where we tried to get some pictures...didn't work out too well. We also went to one of his cousin's birthday party. We dressed him as a Mexican soccer player and he was too cute! We carved pumpkins with his Tio Shane Saturday night. We tailgated all day on Sunday for the Saints game so we had Saints themed costumes...he was Sean Payton but was not liking his headset! He spent most the day and the afternoon with Nanny and Poppy. I think he had a fun weekend!

Hospital Stay

Recently we had a major scare with Isaac that resulted in a hospital stay and I just wanted to let everyone know what's going on. One morning Andrew got Isaac up for school and kept telling me how tired he was, and he even fell when he tried to walk. I didn't see the fall and I didn't think too much about it. When we got to daycare, the same thing happened but he was really out of it so I came back home and tried to give him something to drink. We brought him to his doctor and he was getting worse and worse. By the time we were called back, he had a seizure. We took an EMS to the hospital and we found out on the way that his glucose was low...very low. In the ER he was taken care of and then admitted to the hospital to try to find the cause of his hypoglycemia. We stayed for two nights. He was doing well during that time, and they took some bloodwork. In December we have to follow up with a geneticist. They want to rule out metabolic disorders that may be the cause of his hypoglycemia. It may just be a case of hypoglycemia, which is possible. Because of the speech delay, they have reason to think it may be more.

So now we just pay extra attention to how long he goes between feedings. He loves to eat, so this isn't a problem. They think it may have happened since he was about to get sick (two days later he had an ear infection and bronchiolitis). I bought a glucometer and have to stick his finger when I feel necessary. I did it every morning for a week after the incident and only a couple times after that. They've all been normal. I'll keep you guys posted on what the geneticist says. In the meantime, please keep him in your prayers!

Isaac's Second Birthday Party!

We decided to have Isaac's party in our backyard, now that we're living in a house. Plus, it was a Backyardigans theme so it was only fitting. We kept the party pretty small and had a spacewalk. Isaac had a lot of fun with his second cousins and being spoiled by all the grandparents! He also had a lot of fun tasting his cake and playing with his presents. We hope you all had as much fun as we did! Thank you to everyone for coming and thank you so much for everyone that helped with the party as well as the house to get ready for the party. We love ya'll!

Boom Boom Pow

This is Isaac's favorite song. Seriously. We first discovered this when Tio Seg brought Isaac to the aquarium. When he played this song, Isaac went nuts! Everyday I play it after I pick him up and he jams out. He does it at the very beginning and then he's fine to just sit there. My favorite part is the very beginning when he's waiting toe break it down. Here's a clip.

Isaac is 2!

I really cannot believe that my baby is now two. How crazy is that? Time really does just fly by. Isaac went to daycare on his birthday and then that night he got to open some presents early. He saw all of his grandparents as well as Goddie. I took Friday off and he went to his 2 year check up. The doctor was pleased with his progress. His wt/lt is currently between the 10 and 25 percentile. Lt/Age at 25 percentile and wt/age at 5 percentile. On the smaller side, but all normal :). Later that day I took him to daycare to celebrate the September birthdays. He was acting a little whiny but he enjoyed the chocolate cake!

Speech Update

Isaac's speech therapist comes to his daycare once a week and she keeps notes and sends them to me. Right now they have a goal to increase his number of words and to increase the use of his words. She is happy with his progress so far. I have noticed him babbling more and making sounds that I've never heard him make before. For example, this past week his therapist has him working on his snake sound "ssss". He also tries to imitate sounds. He is doing some signing as well. He signs "more", "eat", and "please." He probably does more but those are the notes that I have.

I know every parent says this, but I'm so amazed at how smart he is :). He follows a lot of directions and he helps me dress him everyday. He's getting good at puzzles and he loves to look at books.

I'll continue to keep ya'll updated on his speech.

Elephants

Isaac has been working with his speech therapist and I get the notes that she writes. One day as I was reading the paper, it said that he imitates an elephant. I've never heard him do that before so I asked him. It's hilarious! This is his imitation.

SHOES!

Like his mommy, it appears that Isaac loves shoes. Everytime we turn around and there's shoes available, he'll go put them on. Sometimes he'll even go into my closet and come out running holding a pair (yes, they match!) haha. Then he whines for me to put them on him. The video posted is so funny. He walked out of my room wearing those ugly shoes. I got those for Omi's 80's themed party.

Little Picasso

So now that Isaac is in daycare, guess they're doing a lot of arts and crafts stuff. These are two of his "paintings" that are up on the fridge. I almost cried when I saw the bananas. Too cute.

Trip to the Aquarium

A couple of weeks ago my brother and G came in town and took Isaac to the aquarium. My mom was on vacation so she went with them. It was the first time he had been there and from the looks on his face in the pictures, he had a blast! After the aquarium they went they went to the Riverwalk. I don't think he napped all day! Thanks Tio Seg and Tia G for bringing Isaac! I know he loved it. We are so blessed to have such good family that cares for us and our little boy.

Lakehouse Trip

A couple of weeks ago we went up to the lakehouse. We met up with Chad and Ashley and the kids, as well as Brandon. We had a great time. It was the first time we were able to meet baby Luke and he is just adorable! I wanted to see how Isaac would be around him and he kept wanted to hug him and pat him on his stomach (a little too hard). He wouldn't let go of hugging him either...I had to pry him away and then he would get upset. It was great to hang out in the water with family. Even Molly enjoyed herself!
